So far I've only played one game of Warhammer Fantasy, but that's the same number of 40k games I've played in the last few months. Inspiration has been lacking, but I'm leaning towards a pure Tzeench force using the brown/sepia paint scheme from my last post.

Using a Sanguinary Guard grotesque-helm from 40k to enhance a clean style. |
I hate
GW's marauders. They're as bad as the
Catachans. I thought my army would lack Marauders for this reason, until I saw the historical plastics coming out from various companies.
Gripping Beast became my source for these depraved humans, and they're actually human size, unlike the massive Marauders! Comparisons show they are about the same size as Empire troops, with slightly smaller weapons. Here I've added a few Marauder Cavalry bits to the models (which are excellent btw), but the majority went together unmodified.
|
The only addition here is a Warriors of Chaos banner. |
|
Head swap. |
|
Shield swap. Marauder shields are actually smaller than the ones in the vikings box. |
|
Another head swap. |
|
I think these guys will take the wash color scheme nicely. |
I hate the GW marauders too!
ReplyDeleteI've converted some to test the idea. Now I've done 18 and I'm waiting to have some time to convert the last 6 (or 12?) using the bits from the marauders, beastmen gors, ungors, chaos warriors (legs) and marauder horsemen bits =D
Take a look on my blog to see an early WIP. I'll be uploading more pics soon!!
Ah! I almost forgot, your grotesque knight looks cool! It will sure be an awesome unit when painted (and covnerted that way ;D)
love the SG helmet. also love that your one game was that long, drug out, exhausting objective game with me. my brain still hurts.
ReplyDeleteI agree - not a huge fan of the basic Marauder model, although the horsemen are quite cool - really dig the musician.
ReplyDeleteThe Sanguinary Guard helmet on the Knight is a really cool and different idea. Look forward to seeing how they turn out painted.
I hate the GW marauders as well but unfortunatly i want to include 2 units of them in my chaos army. I have chosen to go with the GW figs but green stuff them up so they look abit more similar to the picture in the army book. Ill post up a few pics of my progress later.
ReplyDeleteI am going to buy a box of the vikings though for head swaps! Cant stand the GW heads!
Nesbet: I'm looking forward to more pictures of your marauders, your test model is promising.
ReplyDeleteamaximus: That was a good game. Next time food first so we don't go into low blood sugar gaming shock.
Rogue Pom: I totally agree with you on the horsemen. Cheers.
Musings of a Smurf: I was just about to offer to send you some of my spares when I saw you're in the UK. Too bad that. If you get a chance, compare some empire heads to your marauders, the Gripping Beast vikings are a size match to that line.
Rabid, I think I'll promise you that I'l upload some pics in my blog, no matter if I have the time to finish the unit or not.
ReplyDeleteIt's not usual to find someone who hates the GW marauders models xD
Before Sunday, I'll post about in my blog!
Take a look on my blog!!
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to this blog? I was enjoying it! :(
ReplyDeleteA curious lack of inspiration and gaming. I've recently taken my Blood Pact out of storage and picked up some 15mm sci-fi and 20mm moderns so there may yet be a return.. Cheers for the comment. :)
